Are Game Developers Great Players?

I have always wondered if they are some of the best players in a game.  They should be right?

They would definitely have huge advantages over the regular gamer I would think.

1-  They would know classes inside and out.

2-  They would know every boss fight.

3-  They would now the fastest way to level.

4-  They would know every quest, and exactly where to go.

5-  They probably have an I-win button secretly coded into the game that they use

Can you think of reasons why Game Devs should be better than regular gamers?

  1. You would think so, but from my experience, game developers are usually average players at best.

For my video game blog, I speak to the game's programmers quite often and they frankly admit this. It's due primarily to the fact they see the game with blinders on strictly as code. Plus they're more concerned (even just subconsciously) with the functions of the game than actually devising an optimal strategy or having the attitude to use *any* means to get ahead like the actual users of their game will have.

  2. @Jordan

You are probably right. It just seems like they would be better at it.

I guess it could be similar on how an NBA player probably watches sports on TV compared to how fans do.

They are probably breaking it down, seeing who missed rotations, defense assignments, etc while we just enjoy it when our team makes a shot, or the other team misses.
